A Valentine’s Day Survey

…because everybody likes taking surveys 😀  Feel free to re-post and answer for yourself…or answer any/all the questions in the comments section!

1. Valentine’s Day:  Love it, hate it, or something in between?
I don’t have super strong feelings towards the day.  If you have a significant other, celebrate together;  if not, it’s not a big deal.  I really don’t get the whole, “Singles Awareness Day” thing, and I didn’t when I was single either!  It’s like Mothers’ Day.  We childless women don’t turn it into “Childless Awareness Day”–the holiday simply doesn’t apply to me at this point in my life.

2. Most memorable Valentine’s Day you’ve had so far (good or bad)?
Two years ago Andrew had to have a minor surgery… on Valentine’s Day.  I spent the day in the waiting room, driving to the drug store, and playing nurse while Andrew came down from his pain medication high.  Yaaay. 😉  He did think ahead and bring me flowers and chocolate the day before.

3. Do you have a Valentine this year?  If so, who is it?
Andrew, my handsome husband.

Catherine & Andrew Storey

4. Favorite love songs (cheesy or not)?
“I’ll Stand by You” by The Pretenders
“(Everything I Do) I Do It For You” by Bryan Adams
So good.  So cheesy.  Don’t care.  😀

5. Worst pickup line you’ve ever received or used?  (And did it work?)
-A (very inebriated) guy walked up to me at a bar one time and said, “We’ll have to think of a different story to tell the kids.  We don’t want them to know we met at a bar.”  It didn’t work.
-My junior year in college I was studying at Panera one afternoon, and a guy walked up to me and said, “Excuse me, I don’t usually do this, but I was just noticing you from across the room…”  Once I realized he was serious, I was flattered and went on a date with him.

6. What’s your favorite gift to receive on Valentine’s Day?
Flowers.  Cliche?  Maybe, but I love flowers.  Chocolate is a close second.

7. If you were a conversation heart, what would you say?
I think I’d just be a winky face:  “;-)”

8. Favorite flower?
Tulips.

9. Favorite candy?
I’m a chocolate girl.  I love anything mint chocolate or sea salt caramel chocolate.  Mmm…

10. Most meaningful way someone could show you they love you?
Quality time.  Simply taking time to do something with me is better than any gift in my book!

11. How are you planning to spend tonight?
Andrew and I are having a nice dinner at home–we are making steaks, sweet potatoes, and green beans, with chocolate fondue for dessert!

IMG_4043Rice Krispie treats for the fondue… but we may have already eaten a few 😀

Happy Valentine’s Day!

-Tell me your answers to any or all of the questions above!

  1. Great post!! Beautiful couple!! I LOVE Valentine’s Day because I think it’s a great time to remember how much I love my husband, but also to remember how much I love the important people in my life! My favorite gift is a teddy bear…or stuffed animal…I know, silly, but I love them! Also, I LOVE getting a box of chocolates and spoiling my dog a little bit, too because after all, he’s my date #2! 🙂

  2. 1. Something in between. I feel a bit like you. It’s not that big of a deal. When I was single I didn’t think it was a big deal either. An excuse to get together with girlfriends and watch mushy movies and eat candy. I don’t get the negativity. If you don’t like it, just ignore it. Honestly Adam and I FORGOT about it this year, so clearly it’s not that hard to ignore it.
    2. I love that Andrew remembered to bring you flowers and chocolate the day before. So cute! Honestly, I can’t remember. Hahah. I really liked the holiday as a kid because I loved getting/giving valentines to classmates.
    3. Yeppers, good ol’ trusty Adam 🙂
    4. Tough one…I really have too many. I guess our wedding song “Where You Are” has to be my fav.
    5. Oh my gosh… CRACKING UP. How did that pick-up line not work on you???
    6. I’d say some nice words. A letter or card with words. haha. Or flowers. As long as they are cheapish.. I really hate that flowers ordered online are a million dollars.
    7. hmm… not sure
    8. hmm…not sure again. Wow I suck at this survey.
    9. Sour patch kids!
    10. Quality time for the win!
    11. Writing thank you notes, watching the olympics, and getting stuff crossed off the to-do list. 🙂

    Happy Valentine’s Day!! 🙂

  3. I love your outlook on Valentine’s Day; I feel the same way! I love how you compared it to Mother’s Day; you are so right about that! I know this is weird, but my favorite candy is probably gum. I don’t have a big sweet tooth, and I chew gum A LOT! I also don’t like chocolate, so that makes me weird I guess. 🙂

    • Thanks, girl! That’s so funny that you don’t like chocolate! I know a few people who feel the same, but you are definitely in the minority (which isn’t a bad thing… I’d probably be better off if I didn’t like chocolate or have a big sweet tooth :)) I hope your Valentine’s Day was great!

  4. 1. Something in between. Being in my 40’s and single, it’s really just another day. (Kind of like my birthday!)
    2. Last year. I got homemade Valentine cards from the cutest little men: an 8-year old & a 4-year old. (Sons of some friends of mine.) They’re still hanging on the supply closet in my office.
    3. Nope, and I’m ok with that.
    4. Don’t really have any, but I’m a sucker for anything by Barry Manilow. Yes, I’m one of those!
    5. One time a guy walked over to see the tattoo on my arm. Funny thing is, I don’t have any! My “tattoo” turned out to be a Band-Aid with some cartoon character on it. Poor thing…he walked away really embarrassed!
    6. Don’t have any.
    7. Have no idea. Probably something sarcastic.
    8. Carnation
    9. Anything with caramel and nuts, especially turtles.
    10. Not really sure on that one. Maybe cook dinner for me since I hate cooking.
    11. I’m going out for Chinese with one of my favorite parently (is that a word?) couples in my church with a couple of other friends. After dinner I’ll call my mom.
